Working with Social Media

I hear from those who wonder how in the world they can build a following without, as they think of it, turning into a blabbermouth who has no shame or sense of reserve.

From what I've observed, extroverts feel right at home with top-of-the-head and highly interactive social media, such as Facebook or Twitter interchanges, live videos, spontaneous Instagram shots, conversational blog posts or responses and casual "Hey you" emails to customers.

Introverts prefer to craft, plan and edit their words and pictures before sending, and there's no reason you can't use the same social media in that way.  You can post nicely structured blog pieces, eloquent tweets, carefully argued Facebook ripostes, scripted videos and artfully staged Instagram photos.

You don't have to get overly personal or confessional. You don't even have to talk about yourself one bit. Instead, you can use your intelligence, creativity, unique perspective - and yes, reserve - to attract and keep fans.

You need not brag or be obnoxious when you portray yourself for potential clients. Your goal is simply to highlight your strengths so people who prefer working with professionals like you will click with what you offer.

Embracing the Face-to-Face Network

It’s easy to get caught up in the endless cycle of emails, messages, and video calls. But sometimes, the best way to build relationships and grow your business is to step away from the screen and embrace the face-to-face network. The Power of In-Person Connections While virtual networking has its place, there’s something special about connecting with people in person. The energy, the body language, the shared experience – these all contribute to a more meaningful and lasting connection. Finding Your Tribe Your local Chamber of Commerce, professional groups, or even groups that are not directly related to your industry can be great places to start. These groups provide a platform for you to meet like-minded individuals, share ideas, and build relationships. Virtual Networking: A Modern Twist Even in the age of social distancing, you can still experience the benefits of face-to-face interaction through virtual networking events. Platforms like Eventbrite and Meetups offer a wide range of...
